America’s 1st Black President

It’s November 5th and we have a new President. Yesterday night, Barack Obama, became America’s 1st black President. It’s groundbreaking and exciting . . .and just a bit frightening. And my reasoning has nothing to do with skin-color.

I didn’t particularly like either candidate. I’m not sure if Obama is experienced enough, but he has good people backing him and I adore Biden. I used to love McCain, but his negative campaign policy this election was disheartening and offensive. I also am terrified of Palin; her conservative/religious views are too extreme for my taste.

I voted Obama. Simply because I feel he’s the lesser of two evils (and I love Biden).

I am worried though. I expected a Democratic president. I however did not expect the Democratic party to control both the Senate and the House. And I am a strict believer in check and balances; impossible when one party has majority control.

I can’t tell you how Obama will run the country, but I hope he does it the right way. So I guess all we can do now is wait and see.

And just to be silly, my black friends keep mentioning how this country is now a “Black America” or it  is a “Black Government”. So I thought this might be appropriate in that regards.

Say Goodbye To Bush & High Gas Prices

Author: Samantha  //  Category: Rambles

It’s two weeks to Election 2008 and the end of the Bush’s administration; has anyone noticed the sudden drop in gas prices? I have. Take a look at this chart posted on the NY Times. Notice a trend? While over-inflation marked the year up to Clinton’s administration, that was tamped down by 2000 to closer reflect actual price. So, inflation went down, but almost immediately from the time Bush entered Iraq, the price of gas shot up to record highs, an almost steady incline.

The war is obviously one reason for the rising prices. But have you ever connected Bush with those rising prices directly? Afterall, his family makes its living on Big Oil. His former oil company even had ties to Bin Laden…. Take a look at this article from Rense.com which outlines some of the *hush hush* dealings of the Bush family. So I have to wonder, how much money did Bush’s family make from the high prices, because only now towards the last part of his time in office has he started to change oil policies which are bringing the prices down.

Just something to think about.
